Here is a log of TI related communications that all participants have received this summer!

  • Dear Engager,

    CONGRATULATIONS!

The PIH Engage network is incredibly excited to notify you of your acceptance into this year’s

    PIH Engage Training Institute (TI)!

This acceptance will be finalized via your registration fee submission, which is required and due by July 1, 2025 at 11:59pm EST. This fee will help us offset the costs of the conference for all participants who require assistance, as well as cover breakfast and lunch on both days. Depending on what you can afford, you are welcome to pay less than $30 or more than $30 if you would like to contribute to help reduce the financial burden on other participants.

Here is a review of the logistics:

    • WHO: PIH Engage team leaders from 85+ teams across the U.S., Peru, and Mexico (joined by PIH leaders and other experts in the global health field!)

    • WHERE: Washington D.C.! Weekend at the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library (901 G St NW, Washington, DC 20001) & Monday on Capitol Hill

    • WHEN: Saturday August 9 from 10:00am-6:00pm EST, Sunday August 10 from 10:00am-6:00pm EST, and Hill Day on Monday August 11 from 9:00am-5:00pm EST

    • HOW: If you haven’t booked travel yet, we recommend that you do so ASAP! If you receive financial aid to cover travel costs, it will be in the form of a reimbursement. Therefore, unless you feel uncomfortable booking your flights without a guarantee of aid, you should go ahead and book your flights now.

If you have applied for financial aid…

You will receive an email from us between May 31 (the final application deadline) and mid-June to inform you of your financial aid award, as well as the details we will need from you to process any reimbursements for travel. Please keep an eye out for this email, and respond promptly to action items outlined in the email.

If you are in need of additional financing…

Have you explored opportunities that your school or workplace has available to support your conference travel? Check out this one-pager of ways that institutions may fund your trip and resources you can provide them!

If you indicated in your application that you plan on utilizing the PIH Hotel Block…

You will receive an email in June with a portal through which you can book your hotel stay between Friday, August 8 and Monday, August 11 (accommodations can be made on August 7 and 12 if a longer stay is needed). Rooms will be available for around $149/night (final cost TBD), and this could be less depending on the number of individuals per room (1-4 person capacities are available). We’ll be sending more guidance on roommate selection along with the portal. As a reminder, anyone under the age of 18 will be required to be accompanied by a chaperone. If you did not initially indicate that you would need to utilize this room block, but need to now, email us to let us know.

    Next steps for ALL participants:

    1. Bookmark the PIH Engage Training Institute 2025 website, and check back for updates!

    2. Once it is released, plan to complete the 2025 PIH Engage Crash Course prior to the start of TI on August 9. You will be required to show your crash course completion certificate at the check in table!

    3. For the coming campaign year… PIH Engage comms is getting an upgrade! Join our PIH Engage Network discord server now to start communicating across teams ahead of TI 📲

    4. Look out for more emails from our team over the next three months, including further logistical information, speaker line-ups, agendas, and more!

As always, let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or challenges you’d like assistance with. You are welcome to email engage@pih.org. We cannot wait to see you at the Training Institute!!

  • Dear Engager,

You are receiving this email because you indicated that you would like to utilize the PIH hotel block for Training Institute weekend, August 9-11, 2025. This block of rooms has been reserved at the Mayflower Hotel DC located at 1127 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036. This hotel is a 25 minute walk or 10 min train ride (2 stops on the Metro red line) from Training Institute’s main venue at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (901 G St NW, Washington, DC 20001).

There are two room types available – 1 King Bed (2 person max) and 2 Double Beds (4 person max). The room rate is $129/night + tax. Therefore, your cost per night will depend on your number of roommates.

    • With 1 roommate = $64.5/night + tax each

    • With 2 roommates = $43/night + tax each

    • With 3 roommates = $32.25/night + tax each

If you are comfortable having roommates, we highly recommend trying to find some, as we only have so many rooms available, and we want to ensure every person who needs a place to stay will have one. You can join this discord channel to connect and coordinate rooming with other Engagers.

As a reminder, anyone under the age of 18 will be required to be accompanied by a chaperone during TI weekend. If you are under 18 and plan to stay in the PIH hotel block, your chaperone must stay with you.

In order to secure your spot in the room block, please complete this TI 2025 Rooming List Google Form BY THURSDAY JULY 10, 2025 @11:59PM EST.

Please keep in mind that this deadline is from the hotel and is FINAL – if you respond after July 10, 2025, our discounted rate may no longer apply.

If you applied for financial aid, you should expect to hear back about your award in the next week. Please still complete the Google form to reserve your room.

If you have any questions or concerns, take a look at our TI 2025 Website for answers or contact skelts@pih.org. We are so excited to see you in August!

    Best,

    The TI 2025 Planning Team
